Lincoln Road
Want to shop ’til you drop? Today’s Lincoln Road in Miami Beach is a well-recognized, trendy pedestrian mall between Washington Avenue and Alton Road where tourists rub elbows with locals and celebrities. In the 1920s, this area was still swamp land and mangroves. In the 1930s, retail shops dotted Lincoln Road and turned this area into the Rodeo Drive of the east. A drastic redesign of Lincoln Road took place in the 1950s. Morris Lapidus built the amphitheater, new fountains and concrete shelters in the modern design style that has now become classic. More recently, Sony Music Group relocated their Latin American headquarters to Lincoln Road in 1996.
